Part-time Opus Business Media employee Elliot Hanson has cruised to victory in the finals of the World Cup Sailing Series in Marseille, scooping bronze in the medal race despite recent ankle surgery.
Elliot, who is sponsored by Opus, came to Marseille fresh from winning the Medemblik Regatta, which was his first outing since his surgery.
Elliot said: “My return from injury has gone better than expected.
“There were a few sceptics after my win in Medemblik, the biggest one being myself, so to come away from the World Cup Series final with a medal is a great feeling and I still feel there’s much more to give.”
Battling through various challenges, Elliot led off the start line and held on right to the finish, despite having to complete a penalty turn halfway through the race.
“I think Marseille will be a great host for the 2024 Olympics, and I’m looking forward to our next visit already. Meanwhile, I’m preparing for the 2018 World Championships, to be held at Aarhus, Denmark, on Monday 30th July - Sunday 12th August 2018,” Elliot continued.
